The Incredible Years Program in a group-based program for parents of children ages 2-8. This program is found to be effective in increasing assets and protective factors by improving family relationships, strengthening parenting skills and enhancing children’s social skills, life skills and school readiness. Each weekly session includes video tape modeling, group discussions, and between session practice activities. Parents will learn to increase desired behaviors in their children by using attention and rewards, clear communication, effective discipline, problem solving and limit setting, as well as increasing family support networks. Skills learned by parents, and used at home with children, will promote child competencies in areas such as social skills, problem–solving skills and decreasing children’s negative attributions, increasing their empathy skills, as well as decreasing negative and/or aggressive behaviors. This Program is offered each spring in mid April.
